A significant development for Lidl Hungary is underway with the inauguration of a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, representing an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million. This new facility stands as the largest warehouse for the retailer in Hungary, poised to enhance the supply chain by serving around 70 stores across the region.
Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the logistics center has already contributed to the local economy by creating over 400 jobs, with plans in place to recruit an additional 50 employees soon. The center is equipped with 194 loading docks and includes a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, ensuring efficient handling of perishable goods. Notably, the facility is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation and a system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating.
Adding to the eco-friendly initiatives, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area has been developed around the logistics center. This aspect not only enhances the environmental footprint of the facility but also contributes to the local biodiversity. The center is set to play a crucial role in Lidl’s distribution network, with an estimated 4,500 pallets of goods expected to be dispatched from the site daily, bolstering the retailer’s operational efficiency.
Currently operating 220 stores nationwide, Lidl sources nearly 60% of its products from Hungarian suppliers, underscoring its commitment to supporting local businesses. The introduction of this logistics hub is anticipated to facilitate Lidl’s ongoing expansion within Hungary, reinforcing its domestic market presence and operational capabilities.
